about the comunidad de fe

The comunidad de fe is a vision that has been in Tita’s heart for some time.  She began the schools to reach the children of La Limonada, but there are many needs in the community which stretch outside what can be done in the schools.  In addition to reaching the children, the families need to be ministered to as well.  Her dream was to see the families of La Limonada ministered to through a worshiping faith community (church).  After many years of laboring solo for the people of La Limonada, God is answering her prayers and bringing together a team to make her dream a reality.

In 2009 things began to quickly fall into place.  A team of pastors from various churches in the US, who have seen the need in La Limonada, have come together with the common purpose to support a church plant.  Shorty, a local Guatemalan pastor, was brought in to begin spending time in the community and pray for God’s direction for him and the community.  After a few months of relationship building and prayer it was evident  that God was calling him to serve in La Limonada and build on the foundation already established.

To say we are beginning a “faith community” is not quite accurate.  It is evident that a community of faith has already been organically established in La Limonada.  God has been faithfully working in the lives of the people here.  The goal with the “comunidad de fe” is to build on what is already here and see it grow.  We are more interested in being the church than starting a church.  There are many negative perceptions here of the term “church.”  Most people have no interest in going to church or being part of a church.  However, they are hungry to be part of a genuine, worshiping faith community.  With Shorty taking the lead, this is what we are working toward.

The “Comunidad de Fe” is becoming an active part of the community of La Limonada.  Throughout the week the gospel is lived out as we share the Word and spend time in prayer both in homes and on the streets.  We have also begun to hold “grupos de vida” (life groups) throughout the community in various homes.  These gatherings involve worship through singing, Scripture, prayer, and fellowship.  God is actively at work transforming the community as His light breaks through the darkness here.
